Superhero Blues was produced using the Stop Motion, or Volume Animation, technique
It involves putting an image of each stage of a particular movement into sequence. They are then played at a speed quick enough to give the illusion that the object is moving on its own.
One of the pioneers of this technique is Ray Harryhausen, whose modelling-clay animation started a new chapter in cinema special effects. Remember
1933's King Kong,
and the strange creatures of
Jason and the Argonauts? The scene where Jason faces a skeleton army
thrilled me quite a bit when I was a child. Thanks, Ray!
Two must-see examples of more recent Stop Motion film are

Wallace and Gromit
(Aardman Studios) and
Corpse Bride.
(Tim Burton).
